A very fine and unusual Art Deco Japanese Banko Ware pottery hatpin holder mounted with a large crested bird and dating from around 1920. The earthenware holder is modelled as a bird perched on a rocky mound applied with branches with a series of six holes, probably for hatpins, applied to the top. The bird is hand painted in brightly colored enamels and is well modelled with good details with the rocky mound painted into brown .
