Turn of the century Chinese carved mahogany mantle clock, circa 1900, an Art Nouveau to Art Deco transitional style with a period wind-up mechanical clock, featuring an Immortal figure on the top, Chinese numerals on the dial, painted panels, pearl drop pulls and two interior secret compartments. This is a Western style clock though clearly made for Chinese domestic use. I infer that it was made in Shanghai, a Chinese city which adopted the western muse and became one of the great Art Deco capitals of the world. Blending cultures, this is an extremely rare piece.
The clock remains in good working order and the case is in fine condition, but for one missing pearl drop.
