During the Art Deco period many designers commissioned their patterns to the city looms located in Tianjin through companies such as Nichols & Co. Some designs, such as this one, show a combination of European sensibility together with a Chinese influence, where we see Ming period vases framed by tone-on-tone floral elements on a rich lacquer red background. The latter color is quite unique for this family of carpets, denoting it with refinement and timeless elegance.
