Rare Restored Pretzel Arm Rattan Rocking Chair with Ottoman

Harveys note: This rare pretzel rocking chair was made in the late 1940s. I sold this chair originally in 1987 covered in this fabulous Schumacher Flamingo fabric. I purchased it back, and now reselling it. The cushions and fabric are still in great condition, used very rarely in a third summer home. I’d be happy to make you new cushions; I just need 6 yards of fabric.

I’m only able to find a chair like this every 5 years or so,

This pattern was created by decorator Don Loper in 1942 for the Beverly Hills Hotel.
This was made by Ritts co, Tropitan , Herb Sr. and Shirley Ritts. Shirley was an American interior designer, furniture designer, and Movie Art Director, their company helped to popularize rattan furniture in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. Ritts was the mother of photographer and music video director, Herb Ritts Jr..Shirley Ritts was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 28, 1920
Herb Ritts Sr. also invented the “S springs” under the cushions in the early 50’s
You see them on a lot of different rattan items in the 50’s though the 70’s
The Ritts’s were a giant in the Rattan Industry as was Paul Laszlo, Paul Frankl and C.W. Fishbeck of Tropical Sun Rattan of Pasadena (started 1905)
