This is a hand-knotted rug with 160,000 knots per square meter in a double knot construction. It is made of face yarn that is Egyptian wool with bamboo silk inlays, and the warp and weft are 100% Egyptian cotton. The pile height is about 5mm and the net weight is approximately 3500 grams per square meter.
About the design:
This Blue Blossom hand-knotted rug by Shewekar takes Ancient Egypt inspiration into the modern home. Patchwork takes on a new meaning as the swaying Lotus flower is contrasted with the Ancient Egyptian geometric depiction of the flowing river Nile, and the gold stars famously drawn on tombs’ ceilings representing the heavens and afterlife. Mostly in hues of blue and grey, the design is beautifully interrupted with deep crimson lines for an added touch of warmth. This rug is part of the “Weaving Eternity Collection” that debuted at the Grand Egyptian Museum, Cairo, soft opening in November 2022.
