A very unusual Art Deco folkart pair of hand carved oak bookends with figures dating from around 1930. The bookends have been carved from a single block of wood with a flat polished book support end with an angled body and rounded curved sides. Both have an oval section carved out and containing a carved integral figure. One contains a man dressed in a long coat with raised collar and hat while the other shows the back of a naked man pushing against the inside wall of the recess. The wood has a natural varnished finish and neither bookend is marked.
