This 20th century Chinese carpet is unusual because it is an nearly square and it is monochromatic. The subtle sculpted border features a fretwork and bat pattern. Bats are the Chinese symbol for happiness and good fortune. Hand-knotted thick wool pile on cotton foundation. This is one of those monochromatic rugs that looks different at different angles and lights. The last three images are lightened so you can see the true pattern of the border. Overall it is a very rich beautiful golden color. See measurements below.
