Gueridón or Louis XVI side table, ff. 19th century – France
Extraordinary gueridón, side table or pedestal table in Louis XVI style. On the four fluted conical legs sits an elegant beige marble top, with white and ocher veins, surrounded by an openwork brass balustrade. Its design is characterized by elegance and sophistication. It is an original and unique piece, acquired from a private Swiss collection.
For some authors, Louis XVI is a style with a marked “feminine” tendency, and it should even have been named after “Marie Antoinette.” It contrasts with the Louis It is characterized by lightness, harmony and proportion, leaving aside the heaviness and excess of the styles it follows. It stands as a more discreet and elegant style than its predecessor.
